This aptly named, “YouBoom,” video game allows an operator to experience a real-time simulation of operating a Genie® Z™-45/25 articulated boom product, without leaving the ground. Outfitted in a safety vest and lanyard connected to an actual Z™-45/25 platform, the mission is to maneuver the virtual boom and platform into the precise position of the “golden platform.” After a virtual pre-operation inspection, operators will choose from three levels of difficulty (easy, medium and hard) and get to work, navigating through replicated jobsite hazards and obstacles. The program keeps individual scores based on performance.

The video clip displays a linear view of the “medium” difficulty mission. The operator first inspects the work area on foot, then enters the Z™-45/25 platform and operates the controls to achieve the mission objective.

The simulator was very successful increasing foot traffic in the booth; spectators surrounded the display to watch the screen and cheer as their colleagues tested their skill. People were impressed by the realistic performance and physics of the simulator. Waiting in line to play was common and many returned on subsequent show days for additional turns. It became obvious as groups came through and competed for best scores that bragging rights were at stake.
